BREAKING: Indonesia, an Oil Importer, Announces Intention to Rejoin OPEC as Full Member

by Leslie Hayward | June 04, 2015

Indonesia’s Energy Minister Sudirman Said has just spoken to The Fuse, announcing the country’s intention to rejoin OPEC as a full member. Said says that he has submitted the official request to OPEC Secretary General Abdallah Salem el-Badri, and the outcome will be discussed tomorrow at the OPEC meeting. It was reported last month that Indonesia was reengaging with OPEC and would be attending this meeting as an observer, but clear plans for Indonesia to rejoin as a full member were not disclosed.

Indonesia is currently a net oil importer, producing approximately 0.8 million barrels per day and consuming 1.5 million barrels per day.
